Always wanted to try pastels? Not as scary or messy as you may have heard, pastels are an accommodating, fun and forgiving medium. Join us for a one day, information-filled, hands-on workshop that will leave you understanding how to work in the medium with ease. Minimal supplies are required. Materials list to be provided. Luminous Landscapes in Pastel

Pastels are a marvelous medium for landscape painting. This workshop will teach you how to create the luminous lighting effects in your pastel painting; from selecting the optimal reference photo to altering the color, value and temperature to establish a radiant quality in your work. Some experience with pastel is helpful. Materials list to be provided. $150.00

Following are descriptions of our most popular workshops planned for 2010:
Painting the Portrait in Pastel
Working from models, you will learn the principles of facial construction, how to plan a successful composition, how to achieve a good likeness, how to create accurate skin tones, and how to ensure color harmony. Various application techniques will be explored to achieve different painting effects.
Making the Most of Your Photo References
If you have photos you know would make wonderful paintings (but aren’t sure quite how), this workshop is for you. This class is open to artists of any medium who want to explore using one or more photos to create a pleasing composition and, ultimately, finished painting. Each student will receive a set of templates which will aid in identifying and formatting the final composition. The use of thumbnails and value sketches will be emphasized.
